Wellbriety Houses

Wellbriety for Prisons Inc. is a Native American non-profit organization providing a cultural approach (The Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps) to recovery from drugs and alcohol for incarcerated individuals in prison and jails and a cultural avenue named Warrior Down for the re-entry process. The first Warrior Down group started in Boise, Idaho in May 2005.

Warrior Down is a Native American approach to the re-entry process from prison, jail, treatment, or people who are just struggling with finding a sustainable foothold in the community. Warrior Down is a Peer to Peer mentorship process utilizing recovering coaches who use the Medicine Wheel and 12 step program and assist those in recovery with job placement, housing, clothes, food, legal requirements for probation or parole, spiritual stabilization, etc.

One of the biggest challenges for the Warrior Down program is healthy housing and we are making the move to establish and operate a number of Wellbriety Houses in the Boise – Nampa, Idaho area. These houses will be a key part of the strategy to reduce recidivism and relapse while building and maintaining a self sustaining life in the community. We are in the process of raising funds through donations, fundraising and grant opportunities. Our intention is to design Wellbriety Houses to become financially sustainable after the initial start up. A Wellbriety House model will be created that can be replicated in other parts of the country.
